Learning and Skills Teachers help young people and adults within all parts of the ETS achieve their dream careers. Settings are varied and can include work-based/independent training provision, further, adult and higher education, offender-learning, and the voluntary sector, so people who like broad horizons in their careers are well suited to the role. In order to complete the Learning and Skills Teacher apprenticeship, apprentices must gain the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training or an equivalent qualification. Additionally, the role is 'dual-professional', meaning that people must first have achieved competence in a vocational or subject specialism and then subsequently trained as a teacher.
End-Point Assessment Components
To complete their end-point assessment, Learning and Skills Teacher Apprentices must achieve a pass or distinction in the following two components.

To support this assessment method, the apprentice produces a thematic case study mapped to the relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours across the assessment themes, and an online presentation demonstrating their journey towards their mastery of current technologies. The End-Point Assessor evaluates the case study, and prepares questions for the subsequent professional discussion.
The professional discussion is a two-way discussion between the apprentice and the End-Point Assessor. Following their review of the thematic case study and online presentation, the End-Point Assessor prepares a minimum of 12 questions to ask the apprentice. The professional discussion lasts 90 minutes (+10% variance at the End-Point Assessor’s discretion).

The End-Point Assessor will observe one of the apprentice’s lessons. This should be with the apprentice’s regular class/group unless there is good reason to observe an alternative class/group (as approved by the independent assessor). For those working in smaller schools/alternative provisions, reasonable adjustments can be made in agreement with the EPAO in advance. Evidence will need to be provided by employers to verify this is the apprentice’s normal group size. The observation lasts 60 minutes (+10% variance at the End-Point Assessor’s discretion).
A 45-minute professional dialogue session takes place following the second observation. A minimum of six open-ended questions will be asked to clarify aspects of the observation and explore any knowledge, skills and behaviours that couldn’t be demonstrated naturally during the observations.
