HR Support professionals typically work in either medium-to-large organisations as part of the HR function or as HR Managers in small organisations. They help solve problems, keep the company culture open and inclusive, and provide advice to managers on a wide range of HR issues using company policy and current law. As such, a balance of rigorous attention to detail and keen empathy for the feelings of others is vital for anyone hoping to thrive in this area. In a larger organisation, this role may also have responsibility for managing a small team. This aspect is outside the scope of this HR Support apprenticeship and will need to be covered separately by the employer.

End-Point Assessment Components

To complete their End-Point Assessment, HR Support apprentices must achieve a pass or distinction in the following two components.

  • The consultative project is a real-world example of work done by the apprentice in their role. It is completed after gateway and takes a maximum of three months.

The project requires the apprentice to describe how they have applied their knowledge and HR-related skills to deliver the services required by the role as described in the standard. It should describe a situation where the apprentice has successfully worked with a customer (probably an internal one) to deliver a specific piece(s) of HR advice or provide an HR solution(s) for them.

The content of the 3,000-word project should include the project objectives, the scope of the work, a description of the situation/problem/business need, the methodology used, information gathered, any conclusions and recommendations and finally what the implementation plan was.

  • The professional discussion is conducted after the End-Point Assessor has reviewed and marked the consultative project. It focuses on the knowledge, skills and behaviours specified in apprenticeship standard, together with any that were not previously covered in the consultative project. Each of the End-Point Assessment components is weighted 50%, each with pass/distinction grading.
