Children, Young People and Families Managers focus on delivering excellence for the people they provide care to. They must be able to build teams, manage resources and lead new approaches to working practices. As such, growth mindsets are crucial for Children, Young People and Families Managers and they must model that quality for others so the people they manage also engage in it. Apprentices can choose from two pathways within this standard based on their setting: Manager in Children’s Residential Care or Children, Young People and Families Manager within the Community.
End-Point Assessment Components
To complete their End-Point Assessment, Children, Young People and Families Manager apprentices must achieve a pass or distinction in the following two components.
-
This test assesses the apprentice’s competence against the knowledge criteria assigned to this assessment component. A written test, it covers a range of scenarios and lasts for two hours. Each situation is based on one of the themes as found in the assessment plan, with questions relating to knowledge statements which sit within each theme. The apprentice must achieve a minimum of 50% of the pass criteria to pass overall in addition to meeting the pass criteria in all key questions. The test is marked by the End-Point Assessor and forms 50% of the final grade. This assessment is graded pass/fail.
-
Apprentices submit the portfolio at least three weeks before the competence interview is due to be held. The portfolio is reviewed by the End-Point Assessor and is the subject of the competence interview. The competence interview is a structured 55-60-minute discussion between the apprentice and the End-Point Assessor, supported by evidence in the portfolio. It looks at both the work the apprentice has undertaken and the strengths demonstrated, and considers any gaps or weaknesses in their knowledge, skills or behaviours.
