Qualification of the month: Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF)

We believe that education is the way forward, and that’s why our Qualification of the Month for August is the TQUK Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF).
This qualification prepares learners for teaching or training in a wide range of contexts. As this is an introductory teaching qualification, it is best suited for individuals who wish to teach in the Further Education and Skills Sector and therefore forms a foundation for those with little or no previous experience of teaching or training.
Why are more teachers needed?
Did you know the UK needs 53,000 more teachers by 2050? To be able to reach this target the number of teachers working in the UK needs to increase by more than 1,600 per year. A variety of resources have been put in place to try and reach this number, such as several financial incentives aimed at encouraging recruitment to initial teacher training. More recently, the Prime Minister has announced a £3,000 ‘levelling up premium’ to incentivise teachers into high-need areas, from September 2022.
Since 2011 the overall number of teachers has generally not been able to keep up with the increasing number of pupils. This means the ratio of qualified teachers to pupils has increased from 17.8 in 2011 10 18.5 in 2020.
The TQUK Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) will allow learners to gain the skills and knowledge needed to go into either the teaching or training sector and help increase the number of teachers required yearly.
Lisa Morris, Director of Educating UK said, “There is also a practical element to the qualification- a 15/20-minute micro teach. This gives learners the opportunity to deliver a short lesson on any topic they wish.
“The micro teach is a great way to put into practice the theory learned during the qualification and for learners to receive feedback on their teaching, to highlight the good practice they have shown and to also identify any areas they can improve on.”
What qualifications can learners progress onto?
If learners are looking to progress further, then there are a variety of other teaching and training qualifications, they can progress onto, such as:
Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training
Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment
Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment
Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Related Achievement
Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
Level 4 Diploma in Learning and Development
What will be delivered within this qualification?
All learners should be given appropriate pre-course information regarding any TQUK qualifications. The information should explain the qualification, the fee, the form of the assessment and any entry requirements or resources needed to undertake the qualification.
A learner’s guided hours are made up of all contact time, guidance or supervision of a learner by a lecturer, supervisor, tutor, trainer or any other appropriate provider of education or training. For this qualification, the Guided Learning Hours are 48.
How to start delivering the qualification if you’re a centre:
To be able to offer any TQUK qualification, each centre must be recognised by TQUK and meet qualification approval criteria.
