Barbering professionals work within customer-facing environments varying from small family establishments to larger high-street chains. Excellent customer service and safe working practices are essential. Barbers need to be able to carry out consultations and provide services on a variety of hair types. They must also be abe to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of barbering techniques, style and finish hair to create a variety of looks, cut facial hair into shape and provide shaving services.
End-Point Assessment Components
To complete their End-Point Assessment, Barbering apprentices must achieve a pass or distinction in the following two components.

The practical assessment provides the apprentice with the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours they’ve developed during the apprenticeship.
Lasting 3.25 hours, the assessment can be completed on any hair classification. Consultations are to be conducted and two cutting services are required for two separate clients: a haircut and a restyle. The restyle must change the length, bulk or shape, to achieve a significant/clearly different style.
Two different necklines and two different outline shapes are to be created, and a minimum of nine barbering techniques are to be used. All tools and equipment are to be implemented, and cutting must occur on wet and dry hair.
Two facial shapes are to be created for a full beard and moustache and a partial beard and moustache. A full face shave, facial massage and finishing product.

A minimum of three Oral questions will be asked at appropriate times during the 3.25 hour practical assessment.

The knowledge test consists of 20 questions and each question has four possible answers, one of which is correct. One mark is awarded for each correct answer. This is a closed book assessment, which means that the apprentice cannot refer to reference books or materials whilst taking the test.

The professional discussion is a one-to-one conversation between the apprentice and End-Point Assessor, which can take place face-to-face or remotely. It is designed to help the Assessor understand the apprentice's learning and development, and lasts for 45 minutes, with a 10% variance permitted at the End-Point Assessor’s discretion. The End-Point Assessor must ask at least 10 questions as part of the assessment.
